  • Attention Juniors: Anyone interested in ordering Class of 2020 apparel, please order ASAP. Orders will be finalized soon. See Mr. Alaimo with any questions.
  • There will be a mandatory meeting for all members of National English Honor Society today at 2:30 in the lower library.
  • There will be a Key Club meeting today after school at 3 o’clock in the event center. Please bring membership and hours forms or you can place them in the Key Club mailbox in the main office. Hope to see you there!
  • There will be a Debate Club meeting today after school in Mr. Sepko’s room. The topic is immigration. New members are welcome.
  • To all members of the Latin, Italian and French Clubs- we will hold our annual bocce tournament today. Please meet promptly after school in room 101 and bring your game face!
  • Students interested in attending the sports management seminar and school day game at the XL Center on Wednesday, November 14th permission slips are due to Mrs. Ennis in room 200A tomorrow.
  • Art Club Members: Remember to bring your light color white T-shirts, socks or scarves for Tie-dying tomorrow.
  • The Scribe, NHS’ Student Publication is looking for submissions of art, photography, short stories, poems and other creative works or ideas to contribute to this year’s first edition. If you have work you would like to submit, see Mr. Rutigliano in room 305 or a member of the Scribe Staff, by tomorrow.
  • The NHS Unicef chapter will be collecting coins to support Unicef’s efforts to help children worldwide. If you’d like to donate your change, please bring it in a bag, labeled with your name on it. You will have a chance to win some Unicef merchandise! Bring your coins to the main office or room 336.
  • On Wednesday, October 24th, during all lunch waves in the Gym Lobby, all 9th Grade Students will be receiving a new Chromebook. In order to receive a new device, students must bring:
    o Old Chromebook (must power on)
    o Powerbrick (a.k.a. charger)
    o School-provided Case
    o School ID
    If you miss this opportunity, you can visit the NHS Media Center after this date, on your own, before or after school. The IT/ET Dept. is looking forward to issuing you a new device.

  • Breast cancer is the 2nd leading cause of death among women, every 19 seconds someone in the world is diagnosed with breast cancer. Friday, October 19th, we are having a pink out day to show our support in the fight on breast cancer. The trading post will be selling short sleeve t-shirts for $10.00 and long sleeves for $15.00 A dollar from each purchase will be donated to Cancer Awareness Research. So get your before they sell out. “Show you care, be aware!!!”

Over 90 local aerospace firms will be available to discuss the career opportunities that exist in the industry as well as employer expectations. Please see Mrs. Ennis is 200A to sign up.
  • Don’t forget to submit a Veterans Day Photo of any important person you would like to have displayed. Give the photo to Ms. Slater or Mr. Urbanski. There are also envelopes in each house office
  • NHS Juniors: On November 30th you will have the opportunity to go on a college tour at CCSU. Based on your anticipated major, you’ll be split into small groups for an intimate college campus experience. There are only 50 spots available and will be given on a first come first serve basis. To sign up, please visit the Main School Counseling Office or complete the survey link available by your homeroom teacher.

Anyone who is purchasing tickets for homecoming next week must fill out a ticket order form prior to getting in line. Your homeroom teacher has the forms. The price per ticket will is $15.00. A portion of all sales will go to Newington Food Bank.

This is an excellent opportunity for ALL students to experience a real-world exercise in managing money, living expenses and finances once you are out on your own. Complete the form and return it to the main office with your driver’s license, registration and insurance card. Last Year’s sticker is not valid. Vehicles need to be registered each year. Students should not be parking by the tennis courts unless they have a registered Honor Society Sticker on their car. In about a week, we will start enforcing. Those students who do not have a sticker will get a warning.

  • PSAT testing is tomorrow. For testing, sophomores and juniors should bring with them a #2 pencil and an approved calculator. Sophomores and juniors will report to their homerooms for testing at 7:34 a.m. Freshmen and seniors do not have to test tomorrow and should not report to school until 10:50 a.m. When students arrive to school they should report to the cafeteria, so students taking the PSAT//NMSQT are not disrupted. A second regular bus run will be provided for non-testing students starting at 10:15 a.m. freshmen and seniors may arrive at the regular time and remain in the cafeteria until testing is completed. The PSAT schedule for tomorrow is posted on the NHS website on the main page. If you have any questions regarding testing, please go to the main school counseling office.

The price per ticket will increase to $15.00 on Tuesday. You can purchase tickets Tues and Wednesday next week. A portion of all sales will go to Newington Food Bank.
  • Art Club meets today, remember to bring your plain colored t-shirts, sweatshirts or socks to design for Tie-Dye.

  • Heavenly Hats are Back! Last year, NHS alone raised $1,360. This year, in conjunction with all the schools in our district, we are once again, raising money for this wonderful organization. What is Heavenly Hats? Heavenly Hats was founded in 2001, by a young man named Anthony Leanna, who was only 10 at the time. The Heavenly Hats Foundation collects and distributes brand new hats of all kinds to those heroes of all ages who lose their hair due to the treatment of cancer or the many other medical conditions which may cause hair loss. What do you need to do? It’s simple, on Wednesday and Thursday, homeroom reps will be collecting $1.00 during homeroom for anyone interested in donation to the worthy cause. You will get an “I donated to Heavenly Hats” sticker and on Friday, you can wear your favorite Hat. This is a special day and we get to wear hats all day. Make it crazy, make it fun, make it whatever you want! Show your favorite sports team, city, vacation, brand, or whatever you want.
  • This is a reminder about parking stickers. Please stop by the main office to obtain your form for a sticker. Complete the form and return it to the main office with your driver’s license, registration, and insurance card. Last Year’s sticker is not valid. Vehicles need to be registered each year. Students should not be parking by the tennis courts unless they have a registered Honor Society Sticker on their car. In about a week, we will start enforcing. Those students who do not have a sticker will get a warning.

  • Get Involved! Don’t let your day end at 2:20! Tables for different clubs and activities will be in the Café during each lunch wave throughout the week. Please take a look at the variety of different clubs we have to offer each day. Tuesday 10/2- Career Services, Crochet for a Cause, DECA, Drama, Fashion, and French. Wednesday 10/3- Diversity, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), German, Gender & Sexuality Alliance (GSA), Future Health Professional (HOSA), Italian and Key club. Thursday 10/4-Latin, Math Team, Motorsport, Peer Tutor, Science Olympiad, Scribe, and Spanish. Friday 10/5- adventure, Student Council, Table Tennis, Tech Support, Ultimate Frisbee, Unified Sports, and Yearbook.

ALL seniors should report to advisory first in order to take attendance and then should report to the gym. If you are interested in ordering a panoramic form, please bring your money and the order form to the gym with you on Thursday.
