  • Attention Science Olympiad Students. There will be a meeting tomorrow in room 118.
  • In 1998, 21 year old gay university of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard was abducted, robbed, tortured and left to die, tied to a fence on the prairie outside Laramie Wyoming by two local young men because he was gay. The Laramie Project explores how the murder impacted the town through interviews with actual people involved with the victim and the murderers as they come to terms with how their ordinary town could produce two people filled with such hate. Please come and experience this powerful piece of theater being produced by our Drama Club this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:00 pm. There is also a Saturday matinee at 2:00 pm.
  • Attention Seniors: Have you submitted your senior quote for the yearbook? If not, the deadline is rapidly approaching. All senior quotes MUST be submitted by November 15th. To submit a quote, please go to the NHS homepage and look for the tab titled “For Students”. There is a link under the tab for students to submit their quotes. See Mrs. Mannes in the Stoddard house or Mrs. Narowski in room 321 with any questions.
  • Seniors! Western CT University will be here on December 11th for an annual on-site decision day! If you are interested in applying to Western and want an instant decision on your college acceptance, email your counselor for more information.
  • The NHS Unicef chapter will be collecting coins to support Unicef’s efforts to help children worldwide. If you’d like to donate your change, please bring it in a bag, labeled with your name on it. You will have a chance to win some Unicef merchandise and candy! Bring your coins to the main office or room 336.
  • Quick Reminder of our School Rules:
    o No Backpacks are allowed during the school day.
    o No Hats or Hoods are allowed during the school day.
    o All students must be in homeroom unless there is an emergency.

  • This is a final call for any juniors: interested in attending a college visit to CCSU on November 30th. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure on a college campus and interact with college students, staff and admissions officers. There are 12 spots available will be given on a first come first serve basis. To secure your spot, please sign up in the Main School Counseling Office and submit the field trip permission form.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

  • KINDNHS Challenge- Helping our Heroes! So many men and women in our military are deployed and are not be able to spend the holidays with their family. Show your thanks to them and brighten their holiday by contributing to the Hero Boxes organization. Things such as bars of soap, chapstick, tissues, crossword puzzles and deodorant might be things we take for granted but for a soldier they are a luxury that they don’t have easy access to. Through your generous donations, our soldiers will be able to receive gifts of their own during the holiday season and hopefully a little bit of comfort. As a school, we would are holding a homeroom challenge to see which homeroom can donate the most items to our Hero Box drive! Beginning Wednesday, October 31, each homeroom will be provided with a donation box as well as a list of needed items. This challenge will run until November 16th. The winning homeroom gets a free breakfast. Students – submit your name in the KINDNHS box in the café for the chance to win our drawing at the end of the month.
  • The second activity is in association with Newington DECA and is called Publications for the Public. We are accepting gently used novels, children’s books, CDs and DVDs to be donated for use in the Connecticut community. Bring your donation to the drop boxes located in the library and the cafeteria. Your Donation will once again earn you an entry for selection as the monthly kindness challenge winner, so don’t forget to fill out the form in the café. This challenge will run until November 16th.
