Coronavirus Update

All Newington Schools will be closed effective March 13 until further notice. I am aware not aware of any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Newington, but am closing school out of an abundance of caution. This decision has not been made lightly and was done after careful consideration and consultation with education and public health officials.

School buildings remain open until 10 PM this evening to allow for retrieval of any items by faculty, staff, and students. After this evening, you can reach out to your child's school should you need  further assistance with belongings.

No later than Monday, our curriculum department will notify families about our continuity of learning efforts. Families will be notified about online resources as well as the availability of paper copies upon request. Please note that the upcoming days do not count as "school days", so the continuity of learning offerings will be strictly voluntary and meant to support students and families during this unprecedented time.

As you may be aware, the Governor announced that he is waiving the 180 day requirement for school districts this year. Once school reopens, we will determine the last day of school. We may be in session until June 30, 2020 depending on the length of this closure. There has been no determination regarding a change in the graduation date at this time.I will continue to keep everyone apprised of any changes to our closing status.

Once again, thank you for your cooperation during this challenging situation.

Maureen Brummett, Ed.D

Superintendent of Schools
