A – B – C – Thanksgiving Break

  • Attention Art Club Members, Elves and interested members: We will meet today after school to create a variety of holiday goodies for a Holiday Bazaar for Families in need. Come create!
  • The Stop the Stigma Club will meet today in Ms. Redman’s room after school. Reminder that this is an extra meeting for those interested in our special task. Thanks!
  • Students and Staff: Please remember the NHS Stuff a High School over the Holiday Weekend and Black Friday! We are collecting books, art and musical donations for High School Students and Adults. Enjoy the holiday and shopping!
  • Juniors, next week the School Counseling Dept. will be having post-secondary workshop classes during your study hall. Juniors should look at their schedules through the grading portal to see what period and room they have assigned. Attendance will be taken.
  • The senior panoramic picture has been rescheduled for Thursday, December 5th during the Advisory period. The picture will be taken in the gym, but students must go to their advisory teacher for attendance first. Panoramic picture packages are available to order. Please bring money and order forms with you to the gym on the day of the picture.
  • Senior quote submission is now open. If you would like to submit a senior quote to appear under your senior portrait in the yearbook, please visit the NHS website and click the Senior Quote link under the For Students tab. Quotes will be submitted through a Google Doc. Quotes must be school appropriate and must be submitted online by December 1st. Please see Mrs. Narowski in room 321 or Ms. Correll in Stoddard House with questions.
  • This is a reminder about parking stickers. Come to the main office to obtain a Parking Sticker Form. Last year’s sticker is not valid. Vehicles must be registered every year. If you are parking on school grounds you must have a valid parking sticker. Students should not be parking by the tennis courts unless they have a registered National Honor Society Sticker on their car. The Security Guards will begin enforcing parking violations.

    o No Backpacks are allowed during the school day.
    o No Hats or Hoods are allowed during the school day.
    o All students must be in homeroom unless there is an emergency.

  • The Newington Motorsports Club will be having a meeting today at 2:30 pm in room 329. New members are welcome. Hope to see you there!

  • Today is National Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR). TDOR was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester’s Death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
  • In honor of Health Professions Week, today’s healthcare fun fact is that in 2018, healthcare created a total of 346,000 jobs. Additionally, some of the earliest known doctors were women. About five millennia ago in the Ancient Egyptian city of Memphis worked Mrs. Merit Ptah, known as the “Chief Physician”! This week, we recognize the hard work and dedication that these professional show, so be sure to show your gratitude. This message is sponsored by HOSA.

  • The Latin Club will again be selling Blue and Gold Mardi Gras beads for Spirt Day. Beads are 4 for $1.00 (2 gold and 2 blue) and are available in room 310 before and after school and during lunch waves.
  • It is National Enterprise Week. National Enterprise Week is celebrated to support entrepreneurship. In order for Newington High School to celebrate entrepreneurs, there will be a table in the Cafeteria sponsored by FBLA. Visit the table and answer the question correctly to be entered into a drawing for a sweet treat. Please stop by the FBLA table and answer the question of the day in celebration of National Enterprise Week.
